"Corruption is a cancer, a cancer that eats away at a citizen’s faith in democracy, diminishes the instinct for innovation and creativity." - Joe Biden

India has always been known in the world for its vibrant heritage and culture. After getting independence from the clutches of colonialism, India started to develop gradually in all the sectors of its economy. Still, even after so many geographical advantages, India lags behind in various fields after more than seven decades of its independence. The culprit behind this is definitely the corrupt population of the nation.

One of society's oldest evils is corruption. It has always been a part of human society in some form or another. It is significant to note that the Atharva Veda cautions readers to avoid corruption. The "Arthashastra" by Kautilya lists forty strategies used by corrupt individuals to misuse public revenues.

Corruption is one of the vices of humans which can completely destroy them. It is dishonesty, it is an offence, and it is misuse of power for one's own benefits. It can be seen financially, politically, or socially. It is when someone's feelings of selfishness overtake the ever-glowing flame of humanity. However, as aware citizens of our homeland, we need to make our country free from corruption in order to lead it on the path of becoming a developed nation.

One of the most efficient ways of ending corruption in our country is by increasing the rate of education. When each child in the country gets educated as a result of governmental policies, he or she can choose an ethical way to be successful rather than giving bribes as a shortcut method for obtaining success. Another solution is making strict laws and penalising those who openly flout the laws by using black money, illegally expanding their businesses, saving themselves from fines by paying small bribes to police officers, etc. There should be strict CCTV surveillance. People who ignore red lights should be punished. We should also work on it from the grassroot level itself by promoting moral values in children. Electoral corruption should also be taken care of, which can occur in the form of money power, muscle power, nepotism, etc.

A country can be considered progressive only when its people are nationalist and corruption-free. Regular inspections must be carried out in situations where bribery is prevalent, such as government offices. Those who offer and accept bribes must face harsh punishment. Both the common people and those in positions of authority will feel terror as a result, and they will think very hard before committing such an act.

Even if we all want an India free of corruption, none is willing to help. We are more or less enhancing it. We must unite and work honestly if we want to free our nation from this evil and make it "Vishwa Guru" again.
